Designed by Adolph Weinman, the obverse side of the 2024-W 1 oz America Silver Eagle Coin features the iconic Walking Liberty that was initially introduced in the half dollar in 1916 and then adopted in the American Eagle in 1986. Liberty walks in full stride with olive branches in her hand, symbolizing peace with the rays of the rising sun in the background. The inscriptions surrounding Liberty are “LIBERTY” and the motto of the US, “In God We Trust”.
The reverse side of the coin bears the design of the American bald eagle by Emily Damstra, also known as the Type 2 design, that is now the new standard design since 2021. The American bald eagle in the US symbolizes strength, courage, immortality, freedom, and independence. The eagle is depicted as it approaches landing with the olive branch in its talons to add to its nest. The encircling marks on the reverse are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA”, “ONE DOLLAR”, “1 OZ. FINE SILVER”, and the motto of the US, “E PLURIBUS UNUM”.

The US Mint has a minting legacy of over 200 years, having been established in 1792 after the passing of the Coinage Act. Philadelphia was chosen as the site of the first place, being the nation’s capital then. Since then, the US Mint has expanded to over 6 facilities and depositories in the United States.
