The reverse side of the 1889 Morgan Silver Dollar bears the coat of arms of the United States of America. This coat of arms design depicts an American bald eagle, the national symbol of America, with outstretched wings as it holds an olive branch and a bundle of arrows in each of its talons. The olive branch and arrows symbolize peace and war. Other inscriptions on the reverse are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” “ONE DOLLAR” and the motto of the US, “In God we trust”. The Philadelphia facility minted coins have no mint mark that usually appears below the eagle.

The Morgan Dollar

Minted in the period of 1878-1904, in 1921, and continuing from 2021, the Morgan Dollar adopted the name of the iconic designer George T. Morgan. The effigy of Lady Liberty is modeled by Anna Willess Williams, where the portrayal expresses freedom and strength, along with the eagle on the reverse.
