The portrait is encircled by 13 stars that represent the 13 colonies of the United States of America.

The reverse side of the coin, features the heraldic eagle in the center with a shield on its chest, representing the foundation of the United States of America. The eagle holds an olive branch and three arrows in its talons which represents the contrast of peace and war. The portrayal is surrounded by the inscriptions, “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The US Mint manufactured the $5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coin from 1795 to 1929, but not as commemorative bullion since 1983. The name Half Eagle is derived from its denomination of $5, which is the half of the Liberty Eagle, which has the denomination of $10.
