The obverse side of the coin displays the closeup effigy of Lady Liberty designed by Christian Gobercht. The effigy presents Liberty in a left profile wearing a Phrygian cap with a decorated hair band inscribed with “LIBERTY”. The design of Lady Liberty is encircled with 13 stars that represent the 13 colonies of the United States of America.
