The story of Moses in the Bulrushes is found in the Christian Bible’s Book of Exodus, chapter 2, verses 1-10.

The Pharaoh had ordered to kill all the newly born Hebrew infants to stop their population. With this in consideration, Moses’s mother kept him hidden from the wrath of the king for three months. After that time, not being able to keep him hidden anymore, the mother made a water-tight ark and left Moses in the ark floating in the great River Nile.

Moses was found by Pharaoh’s daughter while she was near the river bank, as depicted in the design. Despite being a Hebrew child, she adopted him due to his beauty and a few years later began raising him as the prince in the Pharaoh palace.
